Sometimes when a sailor gets time on his hands he takes to doing things that reminds him of sailing.
Practicing knots, whipping ends, splicing lines, or reading a book or two about sailing. Last winter I borrowed my daughter's (Nasty Nate) wood burning set. I did a couple of sketches of the Christopher-Jin on paper and then picked out the one I liked the best and re-sketched it on a block of wood I had sitting around the shop. I then set to work burning the sketch into the block. Finally I gave the finished burning a coat of varnish. Every season it get a little darker and richer looking.
